Lodge Jerusalem No. 1056 is a lodge of Freemasons in Sydney, Australia.
It is named after the holy city of Jerusalem, a place of significance to the three great monotheistic religions: Christianity, Islam and Judaism.
We believe that more things binds us than divides us.
As Freemasons and as people who feel a strong affinity with such a holy city, we will build bonds of brotherly love between our members based on these ideals.
Why Jerusalem?
Lodge Jerusalem is the only lodge with this name in Australia. It bears the name of the Holy City in which King Solomon dedicated a temple to the worship of the one God, the GAOTU, as documented in 1 Kings of the Old Testament; and representing the first lesson of architecture in the whole of mankind’s history, the source of all our Masonic traditions and therefore so important to our Order.
Jerusalem is the city which became the scene of Jesus’s last ministry, his crucifixion and resurrection; the city from which Prophet Muhammad ascended to heaven; the site of Judaism’s most holy site, the Holy of Holies. It is a city revered by the three major monotheistic religions and is the cradle of our most respected masonic traditions.
Jerusalem has no equal anywhere in status, importance, beauty and symbolism. No city in the world has captured so much the interest, for so long and of so many people. No city in the world is so revered and loved as much.
In line with the fact that the name Jerusalem derives from the Hebrew words “city of peace”, it focusses on friendship and brotherhood as the path to everlasting peace!

Lodge Jerusalem’s emblem
Lodge Jerusalem’s emblem is based around a “hamsa” or hand of protection. The hamsa takes its origin from the middle east and has significance within all three monotheistic religions.

The hamsa contains many elements holding great significance to our Lodge and to the Holy City of Jerusalem.
- Jerusalem Stone – iconic for its use in the old city of Jerusalem and the Temple of King Solomon
- The Bird of Peace represents our goal of peace and of new beginnings
- Rising Sun or the Glory represents G-d, knowledge and light.
To learn more about our emblem you can read about how we created it or you can delve into the deeper symbolical meanings of the hamsa.
