Lodge Jerusalem’s emblem as it appears now is a result of many hours of work and consultation.
Early in the petition and application process, our Brethren needed a symbol or logo to align and identify themselves with.
The Formation Committee decided to hold a competition amongst the Brethren and asking them to submit designs for a potential logo.
Thirteen individual designs were submitted to the Committee and presented anonymously. The Formation Committee weighed up each design on its merits and unanimously chose one design based around a “hamsa” or hand of protection.
The hamsa takes its origin from the middle east and has significance within all three monotheistic religions.
Utilising advice from Grand Lodge, the Committee engaged an online logo tournament to have the design professionally built based on a written brief stemming from the original design.
After more than 60 iterations and revisions from five different artists from around the world, the final design was chosen.
The hamsa contains many elements holding great significance to our Lodge and to the Holy City of Jerusalem.
- Jerusalem Stone, iconic for its use in the old city of Jerusalem and the Temple of King Solomon
- Bird of Peace. Represents our goal of peace and of new beginnings
- Rising Sun or the Glory. Represents G-d, knowledge and light.
